A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy was killed in a traffic collision in Victorville on Monday, according to authorities.

The crash occurred at 11:09 a.m. at the intersection of Seneca and El Evado roads, according to an X post by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Aerial video of the scene showed what appeared to be a body covered with an American flag draped over it next to the vehicle wreckage.

Officials initially said they were unable to confirm the extent of the deputy's injuries "due to live wires down in the area," Gloria Orejel, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Department, told Victor Valley News Group.

Orejel said officials from Southern California Edison were heading to the scene to assist.

Responding officers at the scene were seen hugging one another.
